Cheap Inks Can Cost More than You Think

01/29/2014

An ink cartridge is just an ink cartridge and once it fits your machine, you are good to go. Right? Wrong! Saving a few bob on ink might seem like a good idea but you could be costing your business much more than you are saving. Here's why...

"Saving" on ink might cost you more in the long run...

You've probably heard that imitation is the purest form of flattery. Unfortunately, cheap imitation inks can do your franking machine more harm than good.

When you buy a Neopost franking machine, you are getting a top-class solution that has been carefully engineered to continue performing for your business for many years. If you treat the machine kindly, our network of locally-based service and support staff will keep it running smoothly.

With our comprehensive service offering, you know that if there is ever a problem with your Neopost franking machine, we'll get it sorted. We'll be out to you within 8 hours and we'll have your machine back up and running as quick as we can. It's all part of the service. You’re covered.

Unfortunately, we can't cover problems which arise as a result of using third-party inks in your Neopost machine. Your Neopost franking machines is designed to be used with official, high-quality, Neopost inks.

Our inks are carefully-developed and rigorously tested to ensure they provide maximum print quality, optimum performance and, ultimately, the longest working life for your machine. They might not be as cheap as some of the spurious alternatives but they still represent the best value. Basically, you get what you pay for.

You should always buy official Neopost inks for your Neopost franking machine.

You may get calls from third-party ink suppliers. Feedback from other Neopost customers suggests that you might even hear the word 'Neopost' so often during the call that you think you are buying official Neopost inks. Be careful.

Third-party inks might appear considerably cheaper. In some instances we've heard of ink cartridges being sold at 10%, 20% and in some cases even 30% less than official Neopost inks. Be careful. These cheap inks can cost a lot more than you think.

Firstly, a 'cartridge' is not always a 'cartridge'. Neopost inks are always 100% full. That is not necessarily the case with cheap third-party alternatives.

Secondly, the real cost of ink comes down to coverage. Neopost inks are formulated in a way that ensures you get the maximum number of impressions out of each cartridge while maintaining a clear, crisp image. Even if you get a 'full' cartridge from a third-party supplier you might find that the cartridge lasts nowhere near as long. You might end up needing to change cartridges twice or three times as often.

Print quality is another area where cheap inks can fall short. If the third-party inks you purchase smudge or print-poorly, it may result in important mail items being undelivered. All of a sudden, that cheap ink cartridge is costing you a lot more than you "saved".

Finally, the main reason for using official Neopost inks is to protect your service cover. We pride ourselves on delivering the best support in the business. We offer responsive and comprehensive service agreements that help to ensure your Neopost franking machine keeps running smoothly. Unfortunately, if a cheap ink cartridge bursts, leaks or explodes in your machine, it's not covered by our service agreement. You may end up having to pay a considerable amount to have your machine repaired or to have a new machine installed.

Here are just some of the scary scenes our engineers have been greeted with as a result of "cheap" third-party ink cartridges bursting in our machines:

Ink cartridge burst and leaked all over the inside of a franking machine...

Cheap, third-party ink cartridges are prone to bursting or leaking in your franking machine...

Another "cheap" ink cartridge leaks in one of our franking machines...

If ink from a third-party supplier damages your machine it will void your cover...

Another shot of what can happen when you use third-party inks...

You may end up paying for the repairs or forking out for a new machine...

Another ink disaster after a third-party ink cartridge burst in a clients machine...

With franking machine inks, like so much else, you get what you pay for!

So there you have it. All we can do is give you the facts. If you decide to take the risk, it's your call. We just don't want to see more of our customers, hood-winked into buying "cheap" inks that end up costing a lot more in the long-run.
