A recent survey by the Irish Computer Society (ICS) revealed that one-fifth of respondents have been a victim of a data breach in the past twelve months.

The survey revealed a lack of knowledge among respondents of their obligations under data protection law in Ireland.

Also among the findings, almost half of respondents were not aware of new rules regarding the mandatory reporting
of data breaches to
the Data Protection Commissioner.

You are a data controller, a data processor or both 

You are a data processor with a formal contract in place with each client/data controller

Your organisation process sensitive personal data (as defined by the irish data protection acts)

Your standard employee contract includes a confidentiality / non-disclosure agreement

Your organisation is registered with the data protection commissioner as a data controller

Your organisation manage its own data security and storage, or out-sources this to a third party

Your organisation experienced a data breach in the past 6 months which involved your organisation's data and/or the data of a client

Prior to joining An Post, Linda worked with the Competition Authority as a competition lawyer and analyst on Mergers and Acquisitions, EU and International Competition Policy and was a regular representative at meetings of the OECD, European Commission, European Competition Network and the International Competition Network for national enforcement agencies.

Her practise incorporates both cross-sectoral and most sectoral areas of regulatory law including Media and Broadcasting, Postal and Telecommunications, Data Protection, privacy and Information technology and security.

She is a graduate of UCD and the University of Hanover, a member of the Law Society of Ireland and was a PhD candidate on full scholarship to the European University Institute in Florence.
